Nobody Gives a Damn About You
“My work isn’t good enough.”
These words have killed more ideas than writer’s block, poverty, and pride combined and they have been shared by every single person who has ever created something.
This is the voice of perfectionism and it never shuts up.
It constantly nags at us, twisting the knife into our deepest fears. Many times, it kills our ideas before we even get started.
When we’re talking about creating and sharing your work, these words are nothing but a popular misconception.
Let me explain.
When this thought pops into our fragile minds, we tend to follow this train of thought:
- My work isn’t good enough (to show)
- No one will like it (or buy it)
- No one will care.
This might be hard to hear, but if you’ve ever told yourself this last point, you’re 100% right — no one cares about you or the work you put out.
Do you want to know why?
Nobody gives a damn about you because, like everyone else, they’re focused on themselves and their own problems.
Let this sink in for a second.
If you’re just getting started with creating and sharing your work, this will definitely sting. It might even take some time for your bruised ego to heal.
But the sooner it does, the quicker you’ll realize that this is actually a good thing.
Instead of wallowing in self-pity, we should be reveling in the freedom that comes with zero expectations.
Since everyone else is too self-absorbed with their own lives, you are free to create and share whatever you want.
Not only that — you can create something that’s imperfect, because no one else will notice.
You can be whomever you want to be, do what you want to do, create whatever you want to create.
Remember, everyone else is much too preoccupied with how imperfect they are or how their work isn’t “good enough.”
